Muesli, not a common food or term that have recognition in Asia.

What exactly is Muesli ?

I came to know of Muesli at a health expo, being introduced to the Cathedral Cove brand. The first product I have tried is the Cathedral Cove Natural Organic Muesli. It’s a mixture that contains Whole Rolled Oats, 14% coconut, sunflower seeds, 8% macadamia nuts, 6% apricots, some raisins, pumpkin seeds, honey and macadamia oil. Eating them with Yogurt is extremely good and the combination of nuts and seeds is very fulfilling and healthy too.

The mixture looks like granola for the mixture of both actually consist of similar ingredients. The main difference between the two is Muesli is produced raw or lightly toasted while granola is usually toasted, which means the mixture is often toasted in some kind of oil that has sugar and honey added to it (although the muesli I tried have been slightly toasted, it still has lower fat and sugar concentration than granola). Both are a good source of fiber, whole grains, vitamins and minerals with healthy fatty acids.

Several ways to eating Muesli

·         Eat it cold with cereal and milk poured over it. Some people like to let it soak overnight in milk.

·         Add fresh berries to the muesli.

·         Eat it hot like oatmeal by using ½ cup of boiling water for each ½ cup of muesli.

·         Combine with Cathedral Cove Naturals Coconut Yoghurt for a better taste.

·         Add some Cathedral Cove Naturals Organic Coconut Nectar to accompany it with sweet flavor.

What are the health benefits of muesli? The Muesli Fusion website has this list.

·         Raw, unprocessed ingredients, offering you food as nature intended it to be.

·         Whole grains provide valuable energy-rich carbohydrates, B-complex vitamins, iron, and cholesterol-fighting soluble fiber.

·         Dried fruits are rich in antioxidants, vitamin A, and immune-boosting vitamin C.

·         Nuts and seeds provide protein, omega-3 oils along with several antioxidants and vitamins.

I am going to incorporate muesli into my diet plan, how about you?
