The Griffin’s Story

Griffin's Foods Limited is an Australasian owned biscuit, snack food and confectionery manufacturer operating in New Zealand.

John Griffin and his family started Griffin’s in Nelson back in 1864. Since then quality ingredients, unique Kiwi recipes and great people have been at the very heart of our business.

Our talented team of over 800 people nationwide have been instrumental in helping us create great tasting Biscuits and Snacks for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to them and our loyal consumers, Griffin’s remains one of New Zealand’s finest companies.

History

Founded in 1864

The company was founded by John Griffin in Nelson, New Zealand in 1864 as a flour and cocoa miller. Newspaper records show biscuits were in production by the 1880s and the confectionery arm of the business launched in 1886. By the 1890s Griffins were producing a range of candied peels and by the late 1900s drinking cocoa.

1987: Griffin’s acquired ETA foods, including its range of chips, peanuts, peanut butter and salad dressings.

2014: Pacific Equity Partners divested of Griffin's Foods, selling the operations to Universal Robina for NZ$700 million.

Girl Guides New Zealand

We are extremely proud of our association with GirlGuiding New Zealand. We have been working together for over 55 years to make a kiwi favourite, Guide Biscuits. These much loved biscuits are sold by girls through March each year as their major fundraiser.

By selling, girls develop skills in decision making, customer service, marketing and money management.  All the proceeds go to support girls and young women to help them be the best they can be. Lend a hand and help them help themselves by purchasing a packet or two next time you see the girls out and about.

First Foundation

One idea, five cities and 261 lives transformed.

That's the simple story behind First Foundation, a unique educational trust founded to give young New Zealanders, with plenty of talent but few financial resources, a hand up to tertiary education.

Griffin’s Foods Limited is proud to associate itself with the First Foundation and the part it plays in the lives of many young New Zealanders. Each year Griffin’s does what it can to provide tertiary assistance, mentoring and real life work experiences for aspiring young people wanting to ‘taste’ the pride & passion that underpins everything that we make and do.
